1. Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Opportunity Card, applicants must meet the following basic requirements:

• Educational Qualifications: Possess at least two years of vocational training or a university degree recognized in the applicant's home country. 

• Language Proficiency: Demonstrate basic German language skills (A1 level) or good English skills (B2 level). 

• Financial Stability: Provide proof of sufficient financial means to support oneself during the stay in Germany. 

2. Points-Based System

Beyond the basic eligibility, applicants must accumulate at least six points based on specific criteria:

• Language Proficiency:

  • German language skills at B1 level or higher: 3 points.

  • German language skills at A2 level: 2 points.

  • English language skills at B2 level or higher: 1 point.

• Professional Experience:

  • Professional experience of more than 6 years: 3 points.

  • Professional experience of 4-6 years: 2 points.

  • Professional experience of 2-4 years: 1 point.

• Age:

  • Under 35 years: 2 points.

  • 35-40 years: 1 point.

• Connection to Germany:

  • Previous residence in Germany for more than 6 months: 3 points.

  • Previous residence in Germany up to 6 months: 2 points.

  • First-degree relatives in Germany: 1 point.

• Qualifications in High-Demand Professions:

  • If the qualification is in a profession facing shortages in Germany: 2 points.

• Joint Application with a Qualified Spouse/Partner:

  • If applying together with a spouse or partner who also qualifies: 1 point.

3. Application Process

The application involves several key steps:

1. Step 1: Eligibility Assessment

   • Utilize online points calculators to determine if you meet the required six points. 

2. Step 2: Document Preparation

   • Gather necessary documents, including: 

     • Proof of qualifications (diplomas, certificates).

     • Language proficiency certificates.

     • Proof of professional experience.

     • Financial statements demonstrating sufficient funds.

3. Step 3: Application Submission

   • Complete the electronic visa application form through the German immigration portal or at a German mission abroad. 

4. Step 4: Application Fee

   • Pay the application fee, typically around €75. 

5. Step 5: Await Decision

   • Processing times vary; ensure all information is accurate to avoid delays.
